Introduction
Mt Scott is the 2nd tallest "mountain" in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. It is a relaxing hike, usually taking about an hour and a half to reach the top. Great for day trips or introducing beginners to going "off-trail." The mountain consists of a giant pile of granite boulders.
Conditions
Very hot during summer. Late spring provides the best temperatures.
Hazards and warnings
Relatively few hazards. Watch out for rattlesnakes during the summer months. Also, there is no defined trail. Be careful not to slip between boulders. Be sure to bring water; Oklahoma can be very hot in summer. Rocks become *very* slippery when wet, so avoid rainy days.
