Introduction
A walk taking in much of the historic grandeur of York's long history, with lots of walks along small back streets as well as some of the more popular streets
Conditions
Pavements and streets, some of which are cobbled.
Detailed description
History. York is full of it. On this walk you'll see roman city walls, wander on a street plan laid out in Viking times, and see one of the finest Medieval Cathedrals in the world. Along the way you'll see architecture a thousand years ago, right up-to today.
The GPS track will take you along some of the more obscure way around York. However, keep a sharp eye out for where to go, as GPS's don't always work well in dense city centres, and some of the ways this route goes are only just wide enough for two people to pass.
Narrative
A pleasant but cold day, and a chance to lazily wander around some of the interesting Historic backwaters inside York's city walls. Despite the fact we passed all the usual shops in the centre of York, it was nice to ignore the shops, and look at the buildings. Even in the busy shopping streets, if you look up at the buildings, you'll see things you'll not normally notice if you are in a hurry.
