This is a circular walk following the so called "easy" way up Helvellyn....
Swirls Car Park is about two thirds of the way along Thirlmere, travelling north. Car parking is not free, although the pay and display machine was out of order when we arrived :-)
Following the well signed Public Footpath - Helvellyn go over the footbridge and through the gate to the open fell. The path is a well worn rock staircase and is quite steep in places.
Once you reach the summit, the views across Red Tarn/Swirral Edge and Striding Edge are amazing. Keep away from the edge in windy weather...it's a long drop down if you get caught by a gust.
