Introduction
A fine motorcycling road, offering wide open straights, some great corners, and a meaty climb at Sutton Bank. This is a nice alternative to the Helmsley Stokesley road, AKA the Bilsdale TT.
Conditions
Wide open A roads, and rolling B roads
Hazards and warnings
There are many small villages on the way with low speed limits. In summer, traffic can be quite heavy, although caravans are banned from Sutton Bank.
Detailed description
Follow the A 170 out of Thirsk. After the steep climb and hairpin bends, consider stopping at the Sutton Bank car park and admiring one of the best views in the country. Follow the A 170 fowards Helsmley, before turning right onto the B 1257 at Sproxton.
Follow the winding B 1257 to Hovingham, and then along the edge of the Howardian Hills to Malton.
