Introduction
The walk starts of nice and easy, passing through the Otter Estuary Nature Reserve before climbing up on to the red sandstone cliffs. Its all easy going until you pass Ladram Bay where a steep climb takes you up High peak. The path then drops into Sidmouth where you a chance to stock up on energy and supplies. Between Sidmouth and Branscombe are a number steep ascents and descents. The final section from Branscombe to beer goes through the very scenic "undercliff" with scenery distinctly different.
Conditions
Clearly signposted coast path. Numerous steep ascents and descents especially after Sidmouth.
Hazards and warnings
Unstable cliffs at various points along the route, keep well back from the edges. 16/07/07 The beaching of MSC Napoli is only affecting a very isolated area of the coast, with only a section of Branscombe beach remaining closed. The village of Branscombe and surrounding area is unaffected, coast paths are all open and businesses are still welcoming visitors, check the links below for updates.
Detailed description
At the time of writing the Napoli container vessel was beached near Branscombe, this resulted in some beaches being closed due to oil spillage. Certainly the smell of diesel was very prominent between Weston Mouth and Branscombe.
