Introduction
Start by ascending North and look for the Red Kites circling high above. Once you reach the ridge enjoy the flat for a while because once you hit the named peaks it's up and down.
I opted to camp down in the Gwaun Taf valley which gives a real sense of desolation but also has some wonderful pools along the river that are perfect for a dip at the end of a sweaty day's hiking.
Conditions
Good to cloudy
Hazards and warnings
High winds, cliffs/ledges, excessive rain in the valley, river swelling, Swallows swooping on you at the top of Pen Y Fan!
Detailed description
Open access land seems pretty rugged with a nice smattering of wildlife. The valley in which I camped leads to a beautiful reservoir as the photos show, and at around 0800 it's so very peaceful!
Narrative
Walked, camped, took a dip in the river, walked back to find the car safe, thank goodness, as it would be a long walk even to Brecon, let alone home!
